My approach is deliberately human

IMG_3805_edited.png

Many of the people I work with are capable, caring and outwardly coping – yet inside feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or quietly exhausted by modern life.

They’re juggling work, family, responsibility and expectation, often putting themselves last. And at some point, something starts to feel out of balance.

I know how powerful it is to be truly listened to.

We live in a world that is faster, louder and more demanding than our nervous systems were ever designed for.

We are always on.
Always reachable.
Always expected to cope.

And yet so many people feel overwhelmed, disconnected and exhausted – even when life looks “fine” on the outside.

At Lynsey Berwick Counselling, I believe mental health support needs to meet the reality of modern life without asking people to become more optimised, productive or resilient at all costs.I offer something deliberately different.

A place to slow down.
A return to the body, not just the mind.
Support that is human, relational and grounded in real connection.

I work with people who are navigating modern overwhelm – professionals, business owners and women in midlife who are carrying a lot, thinking a lot, and quietly wondering when it all became so hard.

In a world increasingly shaped by technology and AI, I believe there is growing value in what cannot be replicated:

  • Presence

  • Attunement

  • Relationship

  • Silence

  • Nature

  • Being deeply heard by another human

My work is informed by psychological training, lived experience, and an understanding of how modern systems shape the way we feel and behave.

I don’t offer quick fixes.
I don’t promise to make life easy.
I do offer thoughtful, personalised support that helps you come back to yourself.

Sometimes that happens in a counselling room.
Sometimes it happens walking side by side, outdoors, with space to breathe.

This is therapy as a counterbalance.
A guide through modern overwhelm.
A place to pause, reflect, and reconnect – in a world that rarely slows down.

About Me

Originally from Birmingham, I now live by the coast in Lee-on-the-Solent. Like many of my clients, I’ve faced life’s messier moments – grief, parenting, burnout, redundancy, starting again. Counselling gave me space to slow down, understand myself more deeply, and reconnect with emotions I’d learned to push aside. I was able to challenge old beliefs and begin treating myself with the same care I so easily offered others.

That experience changed how I relate to myself and to life. It made me braver, softer, and clearer about what matters – and ultimately, it led me to this work.

My experience

Since 2017, I’ve worked with clients across a range of settings including the NHS, Anxiety UK, Mind, The Bereavement Counselling Charity, and within education supporting school staff. I’m particularly drawn to working with people who care for others – those who hold a lot, often without much space for themselves.

I’m an Integrative Creative Psychotherapist, which means I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches – including Person-Centred therapy, CBT, psychodynamic work, NLP and coaching. Rather than following a fixed formula, our sessions are shaped around you, your pace, and what feels most helpful.

I offer therapy in a way that is thoughtful, relational and human. Sometimes that means sitting together in a calm space. Sometimes it means walking side-by-side outdoors. Always, it means working with care, curiosity and respect.

The practical (so you can feel safe)

I’m an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCS18-06674) and work in line with their ethical framework.

I’m fully insured, DBS checked, Mental Health First Aid trained, registered with the ICO (ZB475985), and attend regular professional supervision. I’m also committed to ongoing CPD to ensure my practice remains safe, reflective and up to date.

Counsellor, therapist or psychotherapist – what’s the difference?

These terms are often used interchangeably, which can feel confusing.

I’m trained as a psychotherapist, though I often use the word counsellor as it feels more familiar. This means I’m qualified to support you with both short-term challenges such as stress, anxiety or grief, and deeper, long-standing patterns that may be rooted in earlier experiences.

Whether our work is brief or longer-term, I’ll meet you where you are – without judgement, and with compassion and care.

What next?

If you’re looking for a more human, flexible approach to therapy – one that allows space to slow down and reconnect with yourself – I’d love to hear from you.

I'm honoured and privileged every time someone chooses me as their Counsellor,

if you're considering counselling the first step is always the hardest -get in touch for a non-obligation chat.
